The aim of this unit is to give the children an understanding of ‘Church’ as a place and as a body of people.
Programme of Study to include:
Visiting the local Parish Church giving the children an opportunity to learn that the Church is a special place and that the Church is the ‘people’.
Meet the Clergy and members of the congregation, explore Church furniture, Clergy vestments and the artefacts found in Churches.
Key Vocabulary: Church, Vicar, Minister, pews, font, altar, stained glass
Key Experiences:
To visit the Church and meet the Clergy.
An opportunity to sense the atmosphere of a special holy place.
Key Questions
What makes a place special?
What do you think makes a Church a special place?
Why/when do people go to Church?
