      There are many ways of approaching the Holocaust. It is a sensitive, and sometimes contentious, subject. The materials in this forum are designed to act as resources for teachers of Religious Education teaching the Holocaust at Key Stage 3 or 4.

      Some materials have been developed, or inspired by, Holocaust educators at established Holocaust Education Centres, for example Yad Vashem in Israel and the Holocaust Education Trust in the UK. Other materials are the classroom resources produced by individual RE teachers for use in their own contexts. All the resources have been generously shared so that colleagues may have a new starting point or something upon which to reflect/build their own resources.

      Please notes that none of the resources are offered as the only way to teach the Holocaust – all are contributions given in good faith and some will need further adaptation once the educational context changes. That said, although the materials and the lesson plans may change there are appropriate and inappropriate ways of teaching the Holocaust.

      All the materials in this forum follow the educational pedagogy recommended by Yad Vashem and the Holocaust Education Trust. For more information on this pedagogy please see the post ‘Safely in and Safely Out’ – an article written for REToday in 2013.
