There are lots of Christian Social Action groups based in the North East (see our People and Places details on our online catalogue for more details). Many of them are developing and creating resources that they would like to share.

I’m aware that the term ‘Christian Social Action’ hasn’t been unpacked in the post above so I’ve lifted this list off the CofE website (see: http://www.how2help.net/what for more details and some specific guidance on each area). The site says the list is not comprehensive but it covers some of the most effective areas of community action being undertaken by Christians around the country.
Christian Social Action can entail:
Making premises available for other organisations and community activities, Support/Befriending, Women and children’s work, Drop-ins, Counselling and information/advice, Financial and in-kind assistance, Credit Unions, Emergency accommodation, Food aid, Lunch clubs and cafés, Education and training, Employability, Outreach and preventative work, Street pastors, Community links, Networks and forums, Recycling and environmental concerns, Increasing environmental and climate change concerns are leading to more recycling and environmental projects, Social enterprise and Advocacy and campaigning.
I organise the food bank at The Church of Saint Hugh, Gosforth, based in Hepple Way (next to Wansbeck Road Metro station). Any items of food donated are taken to The People’s Kitchen in Newcastle for distribution to the needy.
While we have a very generous Congregation who donate food regularly, there is always room for more, so anyone wishing to donate tinned food can bring it to Saint Hugh’s either on a Thursday (Church open at 9.30 for 10.00 Eucharist, or on a Sunday (9.15 for 10.00 Eucharist).
Great to see such an inspiring example of Christian Social Action in practice, thanks Tim
