Multifaith Newcastle upon Tyne
Immerse yourself! Visit at least three houses of worship (Sikh Gurdwara or Hindu Mandir, a synagogue or mosque, St. Mary's Cathedral or the Buddhist Centre). Shop in a Chinese cash & carry (examine resources and artefacts associated with Chinese Religion), and the "Asian" shops of Stanhope Street. Experience at first hand how visits inform, enrich and address RE/RS, Citizenship Education, issues of Equality and Diversity or Race Equality.

Teaching Christianity - a World Wide Multicultural Faith
Christianity is a world wide faith with believers spanning many cultures. This course intends to raise awareness of the richness and diversity of Christianity routed in some of these cultures by:

Teaching Spring Festivals (Easter, Purim, Holi)
Participants will learn about each of the festivals (Easter, Holi, Purim) before exploring a rich variety of activities that might be undertaken with Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2 children.
Handouts, designed to ensure that the activities can be used immediately back in school, will be provided, as will opportunities to reflect on suitable artefacts and resources.

Assessment for Learning in RE
ow are your pupils doing in RE? How do you know? How do they know? Do pupils know how to improve their work and build on success?

This course will address these questions and will help you to use a range of assessment strategies linked to the levels of attainment. We will explore the key elements of Assessment for Learning and how it can be used to engage pupils in their learning and help them to achieve in RE.

Religious Education in the Foundation Stage
The aim of this course is to enable RE to be put in place, or to improve the provision of RE in the Foundation Stage.

Participants will:
reflect on the relationship between RE & the early learning goals; examine practical ways of developing RE activities; consider approaches to planning; explore how children can learn about, & learn from, religion as part of their personal and academic development.

Judaism as a Core or Supplementary Study
This course will explore the Jewish way of life and worship including key festivals, artefacts and rites of passage. It will include a tour of the Orthodox Synagogue on Graham Park Road. Practical teaching and learning activities will be incorporated that will enable teachers to teach about Judaism with confidence.

Encountering Faith: Catholics and Bahá'ís in Dialogue
The ‘Encountering Faith’ courses aim to improve knowledge & understanding and engender openness, confidence & mutual respect between people of all faiths and none.

A priest from the Roman Catholic tradition and a member of the Durham Bahá’i community will describe their primary beliefs and practices and discuss how these influence and affect their day to day lives. Experience at first hand the diversities and similarities present in these different traditions; compare and contrast their approaches to matters of faith and morality

This course will enable teachers to address RE syllabus requirements, to teach about the Northern Saints, with confidence and enthusiasm.

Who were the Saints: Bede, Cuthbert, Aiden, Hild and Oswald? Why should pupils remember and celebrate their lives today? What practical classroom activities and resources will bring them to life? Come and find out with an experienced and enthusiastic practitioner!

Looking for fresh ideas for your RE lessons? Wanting to engage your pupils through some challenging and interesting activities? Then this is the course for you

Work with practical examples of how to engage pupils in high order thinking through the use of thinking skills activities. Share good practice and consider how strategies presented can be used and adapted for your own classroom and school.
