Education Programme Coordinator: Debbie Kefford
Atisha Centre is part of the New Kadampa Tradition of Mahayana Buddhism founded in the west by the Tibetan teacher Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. The Centre offers classes and study programmes on Buddhist psychology, philosophy and meditation instruction as well as retreats for all levels of practitioner. The emphasis is on integrating Buddha's teachings into daily life to solve human problems and to spread lasting peace and happiness throughout the world.
We are happy to visit schools and colleges to give presentations on Buddhism and meditation. We normally ask for a fee of £10 per hour plus travel expenses of 20p/mile travelled. Alternatively schools are welcome to visit the centre, which has a meditation room for up to 40 individuals. The centre is a detached house with small garden located in a residential area of Darlington so parking can be limited at certain times of the day.
The Centre also holds workshops for primary and secondary school teachers. Please contact the Centre for dates.
For up to date information about all our classes please see our web site.
Notes (6/8/07): Parking can be a problem near the centre because of the narrow streets, but there is parking available at the train station, or the nearby Louisa Street - less than ten minutes' walk away. Visits last an hour and £1 charge is made per person. Any aspect of Buddhism can be examined as long as the centre are given advanced notice.
